Happy Father’s Day!

007

This is my son Michael, no he's not a dad yet:) Although he is old enough, 35 years old but not married yet, he lives in Annapolis, Maryland and just became a homeowner this past year, Annapolis is about 4 hours away from us so I do get to see him on holidays and weekends, he came home this weekend and is golfing and I’m dogsitting he dog:) The reason I showed you his picture is because he is the "picture" of my dad, same mouth, same eyes and yes, if he styled his hair in the 30's look, same hair although he has it covered here in the "cool" style.

My dad is in his 20's in this photo and I don't blame mom one bit for falling in love with him, I think he is quite handsome, mom told me once that they meant at a carnival on the ferris wheel, little did they know that WWII would seperate them four long years. He was a very hard working man and loved his garden, I think my love of vegetables is all because of him, he would explain to me how each vegetable was good for my body:) to this day I think the only vegetable I don't like is eggplant! I would give anything to eat his corn and tomatoes again....sigh.  I was the baby of the four children and was his little girl…even at the age of 60 those feeling and memories just don’t go away…Love and miss you dad♥

Fooling With My Sewing Machine!

No, not the kind that you sew on and make beautiful pillows and drapes and bed skirts. I’m talking about the old one that was given to me years ago that I have in the room off the kitchen, I never know what to call that room by the way.
I was just sitting here with my lap top blog hopping and my eyes rested on that sewing machine and I thought at that moment that it needed something else on it besides the lamp and African violet that I haven’t killed yet, four years and it’s still alive a major thing for me with plants! So I remembered that I had two of these milk glass compotes, one I bought at GW and the other one given to me at a yardsale each worth $12.00 I looked it up on Google:) Anyway I filled it with shells and added it to the sewing machine!

I then added a picture of Sam when she was two on a black picture holder…P6160976
I found this floral arrangement at a moving sale last weekend for a $1.00! I thought it was so pretty for the warmer weather.
P6160978
It’s hard to take pictures at 8:15 at night and it’s also hard to decorate the top of that sewing machine, always did have a hard time with it!
P6160974
Here’s another pic of it, I think I like it and hope you do too!

Best Yardsale Finds at The Nester’s

This is what the bench looked like when I bought it, see below what I did with it!

Good Morning or afternoon!

The Nester is having a linky party about the best yardsale finds ever so I thought I’d show a few of mine that have come my way over the years, alot is still in the basement waiting to be sold or painted. I’ve been visiting yard sales since the 80’s so I’ve bought alot and sold alot at our annual yardsale at my sister’s house every August and this year will be no different…can’t wait!

I found this desk at my sister’s yardsale about four years ago, a brown wood with a railing all along the top of it for $20.00, my husband removed it for me and I painted it a barn red and it was fine until I went from prim to a cottage look a year ago. I think it looks just dreamy painted white don’t you?

P6150959
I moved the chair aside for a better look at the desk! The top flips up and I keep my address book in there plus tissue paper and cards!
P6150961
Beautiful Ball jars that I traded for…a whole box full of them!
P6150962
They go so well with everything and every style of decorating I think!
P6150969
I found this bench at a yardsale right up the road, the lady wanted $20.00 for it but she was cleaning up for the day and I got it for $15.00! Pays to get there late sometimes! I painted it white and recovered the orange seat with a drop cloth and then painted the black stripes on it, sigh, I so love it! The black ticking pillow, brand  new, at another yardsale for a $1.00!

P6150967
When I first painted it I had did it with this pretty fabric but soon wanted the feedsack look and I’m much more happier with it now!

100_3350
I think I paid $5.00 for this aqua suitcase, what a find it was, sooooo vintage and old…
P6150963
especially with the initials on it in brass! I wonder where this suitcase has been?
P6150965

Here is another find that I still have, I just can’t bring myself to sell her, a $1.00 is all I paid for her! I painted the frame black when I was prim and I’m not sure if I painted it white it would look good or not, what do you think?

I’m hooking up with these wonderful  parties today! Thanks so much for hosting ladies!

Just Wanted to Say …

Hi everyone, how are you and are you enjoying the beginning of summer like I am? We are having weather in the 70’s here, the 90’s are gone for a little while I know they will be back again and that’s okay the air conditioning man is here and putting in a new air conditioner, yeah!

I just wanted to come on here before I leave for work and say a great big thank you to my followers and everyone who stops by to read my craziness, it’s been a year since I started Something Nice and Pretty, can’t believe a year has went by! I’ve learned so very much from all of you like spray painting, painting things white, what’s for sale at Target, Lowe’s and TJMaxx plus Marshall’s :) I’m having fun with this blog of mine and I hope it sure stays that way because I don’t know what I’d do without all of you every morning with my cup of coffee! I’ve loved coming into your homes and I’ve laughed and yes, cried and prayed for you…you are my friends, thank you all so much!!!

Love Me Some GW!

Yes, those little ceramic birdhouses are from the Dollar Tree, cute huh?

Boy, has it been hot here in SW Pa. two days in a row in the 90’s and our AC is broke! I’m not a happy camper, I get all crabby and stuff, thank goodness for pools! It’s summer now and the start of watching  Syd and Sam  twice a week plus working the rest of the week, that’s why I haven’t been on here to much just trying to get in  the groove again, by the end of summer I’m just so done in:) We were in the pool for hours today and also had a thunderstorm so now it feels like it has cooled down some.  We have some type of insurance for the home and the AC has to first ship to the AC repairman than he brings it, which I think is ridiculous…so  it better hurry!!!
I never know what I’m going to find at my local GW, somedays I walk in and there is so much I want to take home with me and other days where there isn’t a single thing there to get excited about. Some things I’ve left there because the price is just to high for GW and I’ve went back the next day and they are gone…lesson learned buy it or get it out of your mind.LOL So hard to do!
I found this magazine rack for $2.99, this is my first for having anything with cane on it, I was thrilled to find it sitting right on top of these…
P6050914
three chairs!  I found these for $14.99 a piece but I left them there and couldn’t get them out of my mind so the next day I left for work earlier than usual and went back to get them. I was keeping my fingers crossed that they were still there or at least the chair with the arms hadn’t gone, which is crazy because I think it would be the first to go. When I got there and thur the door I could see all three still sitting there with a now added magazine rack sitting on top of one of the chairs, the greatest thing was when I checked the price just to be sure, they had reduced the price to $7.00 a piece…BINGO! So I got all four pieces for $24.00!
P6050911
Of course they are still sitting there waiting to be painted and the seats redone, I have no clue as of now where I’m going to put them and I think I’ll paint them first before deciding on the fabric for the seats!
I did manage to paint the magazine rack a Cottage White by Behr, I think it turned out so sweet!

Marshall’s Birdbath!

Sneak peak of my back porch that I'm getting ready for the Blog Block Party and if your wondering why I include a picture at the top of my post that sometimes has nothing to do with the post it's because I use Live Writer. With Live Writer, if you want a picture to show up on bloglists, you have to go into blogger and post a picture on your post from there then hit publish again!

Whenever I take a trip to Marshall’s or TJ Maxx I always go to the clearance section first hoping to find a great deal, well I did the last time I was there never expecting it to be a birdbath of all things! There is was though and so neat and already rusty looking and I love the little bird sitting there too! The real birds love it but every time I try to take a picture of them in there the fly away!  It was $30.00 marked down to $20.00 so I couldn’t resist taking it home with me!
P5260869
Here it is in all it’s glory and when I bought it I knew where I was going to put it, right next to the pool house!
P5260868
Here is the hanging basket I found at Giant Eagle of all places for $4.99… cheaper even than the flea market! The name of the flower is  Buttercup Petunias!
P5260866
Also a close up of my Climates flower…love the violet color of it!

I hope you enjoyed my post today and hope all of you are having a fantastic start to summer♥

Changes in the Bathroom

I love black and white, I think it makes such a statement in a room, so I decided to do a little redo in my bathroom using  black and white in a new shower curtain, I found it at Burlington Coat Factory for only $9.99! In the mirror you can see the cabinet that I had found at the flea market for $5.00 a few years ago, love the zebra storage container on the top that I found at the same place, actually have two bigger ones that go with it. I also added a few pieces of milk glass and a new picture picture frame from Marshall’s!
I love the greenery in there too, the milk glass vase is from GW and the greenery is from Michael’s that was on sale at the time. The hand towels are from the Shabby Chic line at Target, also bought the rug that goes with it but forgot to take a picture of it, it’s white too!
P6020907
Here’s the top of the cabinet and you can see the silver frame alot better! I have always loved this picture of the grands, they have grown so much since this picture was taken, Samantha on the far right is going to first grade already.
P6020908 o
This bathroom is so small, for the very top picture I was standing in the hallway to at least get a good enough picture:0 With this one I’m practically in the tub.LOL
P6020910
Well, that’s just a little of what I’ve been doing, still deciding what paint color to use for the desk…Oh, the handtowel there is from K-Mart got it on sale!
So happy that you stopped by, always love your comments too♥
