Winter Blahs

Hello everyone, I know I’ve been gone for a while
but I guess I just hit a brick wall with blogging
plus it is January only three more days and it will
be gone for another year! It’s been hard doing
projects because of the weather and temps, we
have had some cold weather here in Pa. I asked
Stush bring in a dresser so that I could paint it.
I got a lot done on it but then ran out of paint,
we ordered the Deco Art paint from Home Depot.
So here it sits in the keeping room which I am turning
into a tv room and I don’t know if I’ll keep my desk
in here or not. The drawers are all done just have to
put a second coat on the body of it then wax it!

I’ve decided to clear out a lot of “stuff”I
see many of you doing the same and I know one
thing it has made me feel better. We have the
snow and cold here in Pa. until March so I try
to do some changing around like moving things
that have been in one spot for a year or more
and changing vignettes too! This is my coffee I
I did I’m loven the black, white and green!

Of course shopping is the best therapy, I
love to shop! I took the wire baskets from
where I had them above the stove and moved
some cookbooks over but then I was stumped
until I saw these cute little bowls at TJMaxx!

I always have trouble with a centerpiece for my
diningroom table because we do use it practically
everyday so I was looking for something that could
be moved easily. I found this basket on the
clearance shelf and knew this would be easy!

A Little Bit of This and That

I’ve had this post saved and just have been busy so I’m going to go ahead and hit publish it without any changes to it, hope
you don’t mind! I don’t have to much to do on my project it’s just getting the time to do it!
Hi everyone, it’s been a busy month for me and probably for you too!
Thanksgiving is next week, our 21# turkey is in the fridge thawing out for
the big day. Until then I’ve been trying not to get overwhelmed/stressed out… just
trying to enjoy the days whether they are spent Christmas shopping or just being at
home. I usually wait until the day after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas
but was getting my fall dishes out of the cabinet when I found these Williams Sonoma
mugs I had found at Goodwill a couple years ago and decided to enjoy them now

I also decided to move my cookbooks from above the fridge to up above my
stove and I couldn’t resist putting a faux poinsettia up there too. Once I put the
lighted garland up there it will really look nice!

iphone 3 018

I have most everything out just waiting to be put in their special places…things
from Target, TJMaxx and Walmart! I’ll get it all put together right after turkey
day, it’s so hard to wait when I see all the great inspiration out there in blogland
and on instagram!

My oldest grandchild Sydney turned 13 this past week… I can’t believe it! We celebrated by
having her friends and family at the bowling alley to bowl and have pizza! I’m so proud
of her she does so well in school and sports.
iphone 3 022

Here are her friends , they had such a good time, and  it was fun for me just
to sit back and watch Sydney have such a good time!

My Fridays have been taken up by football, my oldest son coaches a highschool team
and they made it to the semi finals , here he is talking to a reporter. I will say that I
froze at every game that we played lately, I don’t do cold very well! Well, the
game before we would play at Heinz Field we lost, he did such an incredible job
with those kids. No matter how old your kids get your heart still hurts when they
hurt!

I’m glad I’m caught up now, I’m decorating for Christmas and I’ll be taking pictures
for you to see!

Ikea Bagel Rail on My Kitchen Wall

I think this is one of the cheapest wall décor I’ve ever bought and I love it.
This side of the kitchen needed something but couldn’t think of anything until
I was at Ikea and had it all in my hands but put it back. Boy, was I sorry when
I got home and realized it would have looked great. Have you ever done that?
ikea 010

This is the side I’m talking about the one right next to the fridge,
we only do coffee here but on holidays we use this side for food,
plates, silverware and napkins.
ikea 007
I brought out my cookie cutters, some are very old since I started to collect
them in 1983.
ikea 008
Anyway I went online and ordered what I wanted knowing it would look good
since I could visualize what it would look like by standing there.
ikea 004

I decided to use the hanging bucket as a napkin holder for now, works great.
ikea 009
The towel is from TJMaxx

I hope you had a wonderful day, a little warmer today but cloudy… that’s ok,
I’ll take it!

Update on Entryway

Hi everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful Valentine’s Day, we stayed home tonight
the Mr. has a cold and we all know how it goes when a man has a cold! Complete baby!

I am taking decorating the entryway slowly seeing what works and what doesn’t plus seeing if I
like it for a couple days…so far so good.
I added a vintage crocheted runner that I found at an estate sale for a $1.00 on the washstand I
painted a week or so ago with the American Deco Paint Treasure.

I had this frame from Michael’s for a few years and just never knew where to
put it, love it here on the door.

Found this picture at TJMaxx I bought it because I liked the blue in it and thought it
would go well in my bedroom which it would but when I put it in the entryway I
knew it was staying.

I’m looking for something to go under the clock on the opposite wall but I’m going
shopping this weekend and I hope to find something but first I’ll shop my house.

An Eclectic Look

I found this galvanized container at TJMaxx for $3.99 and couldn’t pass it up and “Paris” on the burlap made it even sweeter!
plants 001

plants 004
Philodendron … the only plant I can’t kill.lol
With chalk I wrote a quote about exercising , which I’ve been doing a lot of lately, my son is getting married in June and trying on dresses should be a happy time right?
Really liking this look below…I also put an old grain scoop on top of the books to hide the heat/air return.
plants 005

I read this everyday, it sure helps!
plants 002
I’ve brought out things that I love…
plants 006

such as this picture I bought in Jamaica 2 years ago.
plants 007
I only paid $5.00 for it, I bring it out in the spring because it reminds me of warmer weather. Nate says to have things out that you love and it will work, so I’m giving it a try.

We will see how it goes and if he’s right.lol

My Spring Mantle 2013

Hello everyone! I hope your having a nice evening, I took some pictures today because although it’s cold out the sun was shining!
I’m so ready for capris and flip flops aren’t you?
I knew I bought the two wicker trays at the church sale for something and for $3.00 I didn’t go wrong! I placed the cloche on the mantle too along with the new, little suitcase.

The eggs are about 30 some years old, I made them in ceramics class and the moss ball I found at Walmart…the last one they had!
spring mantle 004
The rabbit is from TJMax, they had a smaller one but I thought the bigger one would look better up there!
spring mantle 005
The egg cup is from Target with a Dollar Tree egg, looks how it sparkles in the mirror!
spring mantle 006
I tied some of my Baker’s twine around this box, it’s the blue kind!

spring mantle 008
Now for this picture…do you think the burlap lampshade with the red going around it looks better or the plain one that I changed it to? I just can’t decide!

Bringing in a Little Bit of Green

Hello everyone! Snowed last night and the night before but you know what I noticed? By noon it’s all gone! Yay!!! I’ve seen robin’s all about so I know SPRING is so, so near! That’s why I’ve started bringing in the green!
While in North Carolina I visited Target in Winston Salem, of course I loved it, went back again matter a fact! On this trip I found this rug on clearance for $14.98. I’ve been looking for one in the apple green color, that’s what I call this color. I think it looks so springy don’t you?

kitchen 2013 003
Tea Towels from TJMaxx!
kitchen 2013 004
Also picked up this hand soap for the kitchen sink, it’s by Method and the design is from Orla Kiely…tomato vine, a very clean, fresh scent!
kitchen 2013 005
I found the owl tea light at Goodwill a while ago and he brings just the right amount of green to the counter top!
kitchen 2013 006
Yesterday I went shopping with my daughter, we stopped in TJMaxx and look what I found…rolls of Baker’s Twine in every color of the rainbow. All for $ 9.99, two rolls for each color…jackpot!!! Because I’ve really wanted some for a while! I found them right where you check out, you know where they put things as your waiting to be next in line?
kitchen 2013 008
What are you doing on this Monday afternoon? I’m cleaning because I watched my son’s 3 dog’s this weekend…can you say a handful? All very good dogs but the dog hair is something I would not want everyday:) Buster is enough!

Antique and Retail Finds

Hello everyone! I do apologize for not posting lately, I just haven’t felt like it to tell the truth. I still haven’t found out the results of the biopsy yet, I guess it takes more than a week for them to get the results back. I do love to blog just had to take a backseat with it.
We had so much fun in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Jennifer’s birthday surprise turned out great! The weather was chilly though and the day we were to leave there was an ice storm, not to bad but we had to put off leaving for home for a couple hours.
We did a fun visit while there… in Mount Airy, which is the home of Andy Griffith star of The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry RFD. Having grown up with Andy, Barney, Opie and Aunt Bea, I wanted to see the place that Andy fashioned his show from. I’ll do another post on it because there are just to many pictures that I took.:)
I will show you this one picture of the antique store I bought some neat things at. Two large floors of goodies!
007
I had a wonderful time there just looking around and the owners were very friendly as was anyone that we talked to that day.
Ok, this is what I found, nothing big or expensive.
I found this picture of a young lady, she just caught my eye, she was 20% off so I only paid $6.00 for it, the frame is old too so I thought I got a deal on her. Next is my very first doorknob, I don’t know if it’s brass or not, doesn’t matter, I guess this is a start of a collection for me because I can’t wait to fill a basket with them.
antique finds 001
antique finds 002
I’m so sorry I thought I had taken pictures of the other two things I found, one is from my first yardsale of the season in N.C., oh well, I guess I’ll just go on to the retail things I found and show you the others in my next post.
The pillow I found at Burlington and thought it would go nice in my office! Do you see what I did with all the Ball jars I have! I just piled them into a wire and burlap basket, now if I need one they are there.
antique finds 004
I bought a new bulletin board at Marshall’s and gave the one I made to my daughter, mine just looked to small on this wall this one fills it up nicely.
antique finds 003
antique finds 007
I stacked my two suitcases, something I’ve never tried before, at the antique store I saw one for $25.00, I paid $5.00 for the brown one with college emblems on it at the flea market one year and the turquoise one a $1.00 at an estate sale.
antique finds 006
The small suitcase I found at TJMaxx, I had seen it a while ago and was surprised to still see it there. I just fell in love with the blue, glass jar with the rope around it on clearance for $5.00.
antique finds 008
antique finds 009
The room is coming along, a lot of moving things here and there and just trying to get it right I guess. My next purchase will be anew rug for in here, I can’t have anything light because this is a high traffic area so I’m going to take my time with looking for one!
antique finds 010
You will find me at these parties:
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, I always appreciate it! I know I have a lot of friends I need to respond to but I do hope you understand why I haven’t been around.
