Pretty Gidget

Hello out there in blogland, are you enjoying the fall weather? Today here in Pa. it was in the 50’s, great weather for
voting…did you vote today? I always do because I feel it is such a privilege, tomorrow it is supposed to be 65. I’m
going to enjoy it while I can.smile

Now on to my project here, at the beginning of October I was driving home from the store and on my way to my house
I noticed a small chest of drawers sitting at the curb so I turned the car around and was a little disappointed to
find out it was pressed wood but looking it over thought it was in decent shape so I loaded it up in my car and
went on my way. Here it is sitting after lifting it out of the car. It sat there until Stush came home…I know he
just shivers when he sees a piece of furniture sitting in his man cave when he pulls in.

Here is a better look, marked and scratched and a couple of bubbles on top that Stush sanded down as close as he could.
I sanded it all over and then primed it, one thing I do believe in is letting the piece dry between procedures, the next
day I painted.

But did the hardware first, they were in great condition.

I used Valspar’s Polished Silver with primer. Loved it… covered in practically one coat but I always do two.

At first I thought I’d put it in the entryway, a place to keep winter scarfs, hats and gloves but I think I need it more in the master
bedroom, I spraypainted the hardware white and added a protective coat on them also!

The top isn’t to bad, and anyway we are the only ones that are going to see it plus it was free!!!

I even lined the drawers with paper that I found at TJMaxx.

I really love it and the hardware too!

Are you ready for the before and after? To think it would be at a landfill instead of looking as pretty as she does. I think
I’ll call her Gidget.lol    I think I’ve caught the bug of redoing furniture guys… lol

Chalkboard Backsplash on the Other Side

Hello! I hope you are having a good day!
I wanted to show you the other side of my kitchen, this is on the side where the fridge is plus where it says “eat” that’s where the door is going out to the garage from the kitchen a door that we use often. I finally finished this side with chalkboard paint, I love it and the kids get a kick out of writing on it too. Oh, the breadboard I have had for years, found it at a fleamarket and the milk glass cake plate I found at Goodwill for about $2 something.

I think we need to get some cookies in the first jar they don’t last long around here with my husband.
chalkboard backsplash 004
I know some people aren’t a fan of it but ever since I saw MMS’s kitchen in her book  Inspired You I have wanted to try it, when I get tired of it I can always put subway tile over top of it or I still have the roll of beadboard wallpaper to use.
chalkboard backsplash 007
Stush took off the trim on the side of the door so I could paint, I have to get it put back on tomorrow and we still have to buy trim for the chalkboard paint.

Do you know what I like about it the most? It was so darn cheap to do, 3 coats each side and the Valspar paint was just $14.99.
My hubby’s garage doesn’t look good thur the door but for summer I liked these valances from Lowes so I would have more light in the kitchen.

Chair With Behr Paint

Hello all…I know I’ve been a bad blogger this summer but truthfully I’ve just been enjoying the hot days and pool, the grandkids and just not having to do/go anywhere types of days! Plus I don’t work anymore so I think that has a lot to do with it: I’m sure you know what I mean.
Anyway, I still visited Pinterest on some days and found this pin that has proved to be right on! Go to my chalkpaint board to pin this. You will be so glad you did! I wrote down the chalkpaint colors and the Behr paint colors and while shopping stopped at Home Depot and picked out the colors that are so very similar to ASCP. I decided to paint a chair that I had during my prim days…a very sturdy chair but painted the wrong colors for me now.

I bought a sample of Behr Caterpillar 430B-6 that is so close to the Antibes Green, see if you think so.

Now I haven’t seen the Antibes Green in person but I bet this is sure close, don’t you think? I’ve haven’t put wax on it yet because I want to order the dark wax so that will have to wait, I did distress it though!

Here is where I thought it would look good.

Some changes going on here at Something Nice and Pretty but like it says in my header “My Home is My Hobby” it’s just that some time you have to take time off from it.
I hope your summer has been going great been hot here so the pool got good use this year!
Let me know if you have tried the paint colors, I only chose ones that I wanted, I have a big project to do with the quart I bought of one color.

Renewed Washstand

Hi all! Been raining here for what it seems  forever, one thing about the rain that I do like is I don’t have to water the flowers but now I’d gladly water them if we could just see some sun soon!
While it’s crummy outside I decided to paint my washstand another color…this is what it looked like before I first painted it. Okay but needed updated real bad.

P2070215
I first painted it Valspar Café Blue, I loved it, I left the top wood and just darkened it with some brown paint using it very lightly.

P2080223

Now it’s painted Valspar Polar Star a very light gray. You can see the difference there between the corner of the hutch and the washstand, the hutch is painted Cottage White!
I also have to get some hardware for it, I do have a glass knob on the door.

I even distressed it a lot more than I usually do and I’m liken it! I have a detailed sander but think I have to invest in a palm sander to do better on the sides of the piece.

Now I have to wax it!

Maybe decorate it differently too but I sort of like the old bottles on the tray.

My Spring Mantle 2013

Hello everyone! I hope your having a nice evening, I took some pictures today because although it’s cold out the sun was shining!
I’m so ready for capris and flip flops aren’t you?
I knew I bought the two wicker trays at the church sale for something and for $3.00 I didn’t go wrong! I placed the cloche on the mantle too along with the new, little suitcase.

The eggs are about 30 some years old, I made them in ceramics class and the moss ball I found at Walmart…the last one they had!
spring mantle 004
The rabbit is from TJMax, they had a smaller one but I thought the bigger one would look better up there!
spring mantle 005
The egg cup is from Target with a Dollar Tree egg, looks how it sparkles in the mirror!
spring mantle 006
I tied some of my Baker’s twine around this box, it’s the blue kind!

Now for this picture…do you think the burlap lampshade with the red going around it looks better or the plain one that I changed it to? I just can’t decide!

The Start of Hanging Plates

SNS at Funky Junk Interiors is having a theme party called ~Decorating with Plates~ and since I’ve started to decorate with plates around my bookcase yesterday I thought I’d join in the fun!
The first plate I found was at a church sale and the 2nd is from TJMaxx on clearance for $2.00, I loved the black and white of it. The third one is an old platter that I think I found at the fleamarket a while ago.
plates2013 004
I found the one below at the antique store for $1.99 in N.C. I loved the green pattern and the maker is Homer Laughlin and the name of the pattern is Pastoral.

I finally feel like decorating again, the tests came back negative thank God and you for yours prayers and good thoughts, they were the longest 7 days!

I almost forgot to show you the other treasure I found at the antique store, isn’t it neat? I’m thinking on painting it, I have saved a picture of one on Pinterest and plan on doing it soon.

Now for my first find at a yardsale this year, of course it was in N.C. but that’s okay the day was sunny but a little chilly but was so much fun to get out of the car and see “stuff”! I only paid a $1.00 but I just thought it was neat with the little lip on the rim to pour with.

Happy Valentine’s Day & Other News

This morning I had to get the girls on the bus so I had to wake up early, I came out to put the coffee on and found these on my desk!
Hoosier 2013 007
About an hour after I got home a florist van pulled into the driveway and delivered this beautiful bouquet from the girl’s. A very nice Valentine’s Day for me.
Hoosier 2013 008
I still have to get drawer pulls for the desk but it is so nice to sit here and blog even with out the hardware on them, I can also see who pulls in the driveway too, which is nice, I’m enjoying watching the View again and my other programs on my TV that’s on the bookshelf.
Hoosier 2013 013
I love having my own space… plus cleared out the room too, it was time for a change in here!
Hoosier 2013 014
I finished the hoosier and still have to distress it and the desk
Hoosier 2013 001
I already changed the top of this, you can see my dad’s yardstick on the top but it doesn’t stay on very well, I used those glue pads and they didn’t work so it’s back in the corner again.
Hoosier 2013 010
My other “news” is they called me in for another mamo I was supposed to go tomorrow but they called to say the doctor wouldn’t be in that day and he had to be there for the tests, so now I go on Monday at 9:30 in the morning.  Gheece, now I have all weekend to worry! I know I shouldn’t worry but as you know it’s easier said than done, the what if’s keep popping into your mind!
Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone of you sweet people that stop by, I’ve really enjoying this part of my life, to be invited into your beautiful homes is such a honor!
It’s not all about the comments and stats, it’s about the niceness and friendliness of people who count.
I’ll be joining these parties ( I love linky party’s )
