White Corner Cabinet

I slept till 10 Am this morning and worked from 1 till 6 and I’m not tired at all, I really don’t like to sleep that late because this is what happens…I can’t sleep!!! I have to be up by 7:30 AM to go to my daughter’s house the girls don’t have school tomorrow and also have to be at work by 4 and work till 9 needless to say I hope I’ll be tired tomorrow night and be able to sleep! Anyway, here are two pictures of my corner cabinet painted black, I’ve had this cabinet since the early 90’s. First it was stained walnut then I painted the inside of it country blue than barn red finally black!

Here it is now white and I don’t think I’m liking it, just to white for me or something.

Tonight after work I stopped at Lowe’s and bought some glaze, Mocha, but I’m really stumped at how to apply it, I did sand it but do you apply it all over or just on the area where it’s sanded? There are no directions on the label, do I just use a clean rag?

This is the top part…

and the bottom. I have to get a glass knob from Target for the door yet!

I’ve also been doing this with the top of my cabinets, the platter in the very corner, in back of the pitcher, is from Walmart. I paid $12.00 for it which I don’t usually do but there were only two left, I’m glad now I did buy it, love the detail on it. I fell in love with the look when I saw Sissie’s Shabby Cottage kitchen and how she had the platters on top of her cabinets.

See the detail on the platter and it kind of distressed too, the water pitcher I found at Marshall’s for $6.99, which I didn’t think was to bad!

Well, I think it’s time to turn in, it’s like 1:40 Am! So I’m going to join these parties:

Have a great night or should I say morning.LOL

Rondell, you just apply that glaze with a brush if you like then wipe it off with a damp cloth. If you want brush marks then wait a bit b4 wiping, looks better w/out brush marks IMOP. Point is the longer you wait to wipe it off the more it sets in. It's best to do several applications to go darker then one heavier app at first. I'd be willing to be just one application will give you the softer look you are looking for. Good luck and it is actually fun to do too.

Nice new fresh paint job, but if you want to tone it down do like Mary said. Do one section at a time. Brush on the glaze and wipe it off or leave it for a few minutes and wipe it off. You just have to work with it. If you get it too dark take a wet rag and rub it harder while it is still workable and take it off. If it set too long you can pull the white paint back out and start over. It's only paint. Thanks so much for linking up!

I like it white. The glaze will tone down the white a lot. And I LOVE what you've done above your cabinets!

I like the cabinet white...it is so pretty. I think once you apply the glaze you will be happier with it. Your new white platters are gorgeous too!

Yes, make sure your rag is damp! That glaze sticks fast. I have a love/hate relationship with glaze. LOL I put early american MinWax stain over my vanities in my bathroom and it was just the right "aging" to my white.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I love your white shelf! I was going to suggest glaze, but see that everyone else did too. :)

I love, love the white corner cabnet. A light glaze over it would truely soften it a bit. You wait, soon you'll be painting everything white.

Rondell,
I think you will love your cabinet after you apply the glaze. Like Kindra, I get my rag damp. I have put glaze on almost all the white pieces that I've painted...I seemed to like the look of them better that way. Everything is looking great!

I LOVE the white against your green paint. I know nothing about glazing but I'd sure be interested to find out more because it's something I'd like to try.

You first, lol!

I love the white. Usually when you go from dark to that light, it just takes some getting used to. You can always antique it with some crackle paint here and there if you really insist on toning it down. I do love the white though :)
